My interest in family archives and found materials drew me towards collage-making. This practice has helped me think about fragmentation as a point of connection, rather than an obstacle. As first-generation immigrants living in a culture much different from our own, fragmentation is not foreign to my family. As we strive to create and maintain connections between our identities, homes, and loved ones, we have learned that fragmentation does not mean a lack of wholeness, but rather a reconstruction thereof. I explore these ideas in my collages through combining family and government photographs with my own.
